As the Detroit Red Wings open up their 2011-2012 season with an exhibition at Pittsburgh, Detroit's biggest rivals. Many feel like this is the year for Detroit as the Lions are off to a great start and the Tigers continue their killing spree. The city of Detroit is earning their way up the charts and showing the world it’s their time.

Coach Mike Babcock said these next eight exhibitions "will be great. We've made it very clear already that for the guys battling for jobs, the window is short to make an impression." The Detroit Red Wings have announced one recent update that will shock the city of Detroit: Mike Modano is expected to retire. This will not be too big of an issue because we have many young talented players that are more than capable of filling in for the lost players.

We have most starters and key players returning for another season of Detroit Red Wings hockey. I am excited to see the outcome we have this season because I feel like this year truly is our golden year for the city of Detroit in numerous sports.

After leaving the city of Detroit in shock, the Red Wings have worked on many things to improve to be the best team they can be, learning from last season’s mistakes. What more would fans want to see than their home team winning a Stanley cup? That is the mission for the 2011 Detroit Red Wings and now we must cheer them up and strive for the cup. Go Wings!

The Love for the Game!

It is shocking to see that fantasy football has become more of an important game than the actual game of football. People look at football nowadays as "how many points did he get this week" or "lets trade players". I was born into the game of football and ever since I was a child I loved the game. One thing that I will never get involved in is Fantasy Football because it takes away from the nature of the game itself. "Fans" these days are only interested in the outcome of their fantasy football teams rather than their actual hometown team or team of their choice. I put quotes around the word fans because they do not deserve to be called fans because of the turnout they have created for the game of football.

I will use a real like experience that happened this past weekend to defend my argument. I am a big Detroit Lions football fan and hate fantasy football as you can see. I was watching the game this weekend with a few friends and throughout the game they were switching channels trying to see scores and updates from other games to see how their fantasy team was doing. They also had three laptops lined up on different games that refreshed automatically every ten seconds to see statistics. People need to begin to realize that fantasy football ruins the enjoyment and passion that fans originally had for the game rather than the excitement people have trying to win money through fantasy football.

Detroit Lions Preview: Week 2

Matthew Stafford

The Kansas City Chiefs will go on the road to take on a much-improved Detroit Lions team in Week 2 of the NFL regular season this weekend. Are the lions potential playoff contenders? Seems quite weird to say that because I cannot remember a time that we ever made the playoffs. Kansas City is coming off one of their worst losses in franchise history, as they were defeated 41-7 by the Buffalo Bills last weekend.

The Lions managed to pull out an exciting 27-20 win against the upstart Tampa Bay Buccaneers and are looking to start the season 2-0 against an injury-fulled Chiefs team.
The Chiefs passing offense, led by quarterback Matt Cassel, will need to have a much better game this Sunday than they had against the Bills.

The Detroit Lions still have room for improvement because we made some careless mistakes in the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Detroit will be counting on third-year QB Matthew Stafford to build on his 300-plus-yard passing performance that he performed a week ago.

With Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry now out for the season, it will be that much harder to cover Lions receivers Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson. Although Nate Burleson is getting old, he still has got the talent to consider him being one of the top receivers in the league.

In order for the Detroit Lions to achieve the success they are searching for, they are going to have to pull together as a team. They have to take it one step at a time in order to find that missing piece that we have missed in our last few years together, which have all been unsuccessful.

My prediction is a 24-10 win for the Detroit Lions.

Last High School Football Game

To begin my sports blogging career I would like to start off with the biggest memory of my life that will stick with me forever. On October 29, at Farmington Hills Harrison High School, Brother Rice (My old high school) versed Harrison in the first round of the playoffs. This was my senior year and meant so much to me and my classmates. We entered the field with much heart as we did all season especially after starting the season off with a 1 and 2 record. We started the game by alternating score for score with Harrison and I was at wide receiver throughout the whole game. My team was up by 5 points with nearly 2:02 left in the game and the ball was ours after an interception by our linebacker. On 2nd and 8, Rice quarterback gained five yards on a QB keeper, but he fumbled on the play.  The ball bounced into the arms of the defender, who had clear sailing–60 yards for the touchdown.  The two point conversion was good and Harrison had a three point lead with 1:48 left. I was on the opposite side of the field nearly 30 yards away and did not have enough time to make the tackle from the opposite side of the field. At this point I thought I was in some type of dream and did not know what to think because we had just lost our "forsure" win and gave the win to them. Our coaches knew that our players knee was down on this play and they seemed to be very confident about this. Although the referees called the fumble on the play and the game was over, my coaches still reviewed this play after watching many different angles on film. They found one beautiful, clear angle that showed our quarterback's knee clearly down, but too bad we could not do anything about it. Harrison knocks off Brother Rice! The worst part of it all is that Harrison went on to win the State Championship. Knowing that we should have beat them really sucks because in other terms, that state championship ring could have greatly been ours.
